Morocco is as well on the area of culture and the area of dance quite unknown in Europe. Most of the Moroccans who live in Europe are from the Rifmountains. Morocco is a land with different cultures / styles and traditions. In the dance there are so many different styles, below we will sketch some styles for you.

Radia is the only woman in the Netherlands from Moroccan origin who introduced the Moroccan/Arab dances in Europe. She started in Holland (where she lives) and dances already for 20 years (more as a hobby). Now she has set her goal on professionalising the Moroccan dance. Her dance school is named "Radia". The dances she shows are very rare, most Moroccans perform these dances their selves and not in pubic but among family and friends. Radia wants to give everyone the opportunity the get acquainted with "her dances" as well the original Moroccan as the rest of Europe. Radia is well known in Holland through the newspaper, interviews and television documentaries, she dances with the two most famous leading lady's in the world of the Oriental/Belly dancers :Lucy and Dina in Egypt!!

Did you know that these dances have been proven to be healthy for you?? Several students who study these dances experienced that dancing is healthy for them!! Because of the smooth and intense movements of the body your blood circulation will improve, several students had a better blood pressure and one of them even discreased her sugar from 16 to 8! Also spiritually people find a level of internal peace and balance, for many woman the feminine movements upgrades their self-esteem.

Slouh-dance:
The Slouh-dance is a dance that is danced in the high Atlas. This dance is danced by the women and sometimes men will join. You will see the aspects of daily life, such s washing, drying, putting on make-up etc. The women use a large scarf that is an important accent in this dance and is used for all kinds of accents/movements. Their clothes and scarves are color full and a joy to look at, their enthusiasm gives you a feeling that a group of best friends are telling a story to you and each other.

The Regadda-dance.
This is a dance which finds it's origin in Northern-Eastern Morocco.(and a small piece of Algeria) This dance is performed with original Regadda clothing and a stick for accents. In the old days the people who dances this dance used swords or riffles. Men and women dance this dance at special occasions such as births, weddings and when they are very happy and want to express this. Specials movements in this dance are done with the shoulders and feet. The feet follow the music and stamp the accents, the stick is used for accents the shoulders go up and forward in a constant rhythm all through the dance.

Sous-dance.
The Sous-dance is from the South of Morocco and from the surroundings of Agadir. The special elements are remarkable you will see lots of elements which will remind you of the Chinese/Mongolian dance movements. This dance is always done in a group and the clothing is really stunning, especially the original jewelry.

The Gnawa trance dance.
This dance finds it's origin in Soedan. Through mixes over the century's Gnawa got it's own style. You will hear the African music influences and rhythms in the music, it's very impressive. The dancers sit on their knees and move their heads in a wild rhythm from side to side. Originally this dance was mend to protect the people from evil spirits who possessed them. The shells on the little hats and the essence is to protect them. The evil spirits will disappear, people still do this dance in the year 2000, they hurt themselves and during the dance they are in pain, after the dance the evil spirits/pain and wounds have vanished It has a strange and mysterious emanation.


 

 

Radia teaches these dances in her dance school. Also she gives workshops on regularly basis. For company's this has proven to be very successful, especially as team-building program and as ant-stress program. For parties and wedding you can book the group or one of our professional dancers solo.
